Creatinine
Quick answer
What is Creatinine?
Creatinine reflects kidney filtration capacity (via eGFR, calculated from creatinine, age, and sex). Affected by muscle mass — heavily-muscled men run higher creatinine without kidney disease.

- Reference range:
- 60-110 µmol/L (men)

What does a high Creatinine result mean?
Reduced kidney function, dehydration, high muscle mass, certain medications. Persistent elevation with reduced eGFR warrants investigation.
What does a low Creatinine result mean?
Low muscle mass, severe malnutrition.
Why does Creatinine matter?
Kidney function silently declines. Annual creatinine + eGFR catches it before it's a problem.
